Wendell is visiting a coffee farm on outskirts of Antigua, Guatemala. The volcano in the background is named Agua.
Much of the coffee grown in Antigua region is grown high up the slopes to the 6,000 ft level. When drinking single origin coffee from Guatemala you will taste a distant flavor that is derived from the volcanic soil, the weather and the desire to improve the farming practices of many generations of coffee farmers.
Guatemalan friend, Jorge Ovalle, brings a variety of his favorite coffee. This is a rotating offering that varies in region, elevation, varietal, and process. It all hangs on the palate of Jorge Ovalle. What makes his palate special? Jorge was born into a coffee family, with his father being one of the most respected cupers in Guatemala, and the World. With a passion for coffee from a young age, Jorge made his way to the US to become the world’s youngest Q-grader, a certification that allows cupers to grade Arabica coffees.

Drink Our Coffee, Help Make a Difference
We donate to Casa Dorcus in Guatemala. A non-profit ministry, https://www.facebook.com/casa.dorcas.9 with the main purpose to provide meals for Maya school children, from a small community in San Pedro Sacatepequez, Guatemala. The families live in extreme poverty and most homes do not have drinking water, what they carry home must be boiled before drinking. Bible teaching is a very important part of the ministry. |
As I began traveling around the world some years ago, my appreciation for coffee began to grow. I found there was something exciting about Speciality coffee, the flavor and taste were so much better than Stale American coffee on a Supermarket shelf, in a can, truck stop or weak restaurant coffee.
I began roasting my own coffee with a small home roaster. I joined Roasters Guild and took Barista courses in Guatemala. Attending Coffee Fest and CoffeeCon yearly in Chicago. Devouring everything I can learn about coffee.
Touring coffee farms in Jamaica, Guatemala, Salvador, Costa Rica and Mexico Listening as the farmers tell and show how they work their farms to produce the best crops.
Visiting professional coffee roasters in USA, Guatemala, Jamaica and Mexico, watching and learning as they were roasting.
Then I purchased one of the best German engineered, gas fired, commercial roaster. Built in U.S.A.
I carefully choose speciality coffee beans that are most recent harvest. Then roast to a light profile to get the sweetness in the cup with rich taste and flavor.
If you want to learn much more about coffee, I recommend you watch this professional movie about coffee that the trailer gave you a taste of. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6CgD3KzDvE
